“Join us in Congratulating our 2025 $5,000 Education Award Winner… Nevaeh Brown!

Nevaeh Brown, a proud Brooklyn native and the eldest of 5 siblings, has long embraced the role of caregiver and leader in her family. While in high school, she first set her sights on the culinary arts and enjoyed an unforgettable class trip to Europe, exploring a variety of culinary experiences that opened her eyes to new cultures and ideas.

It was during this time of exploration that Nevaeh discovered a passion for psychology. Influenced by her travels and the mental health challenges she witnessed in her community, she began to envision a different path—one focused on helping others in a deeper, more meaningful way.

In the fall of 2020, Nevaeh began her college journey at Clark Atlanta University—right in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Starting college during such a difficult time, with online classes and limited in-person interaction, was far from the traditional freshman experience. Despite these challenges, Nevaeh made the courageous decision to remain on campus for all her college years, showing resilience and determination.

While at Clark Atlanta, she majored in psychology, driven by a strong desire to make a lasting impact on others’ lives. Nevaeh also served as captain of the university’s marching band dance line, “The Essence Dance Line”, performing at numerous athletic & promotional events. This leadership role helped her develop essential skills in time management, discipline, and focus—all of which fueled her academic ambition to pursue graduate studies.

After deciding to take a gap year, Nevaeh enrolled in prerequisite courses at Johns Hopkins with plans to apply to nursing programs. She soon discovered Emory University’s Nursing program and was drawn to its exceptional reputation, robust funding opportunities, and vibrant, supportive community. Though she only applied to Emory—thinking it might be a long shot—she was thrilled to be accepted and will begin classes this fall.

As a first-generation college graduate, Nevaeh is deeply committed to minimizing student debt through scholarships and grants. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for receiving our Annual $5,000 Education Award, emphasizing how much it means to her family and her future career in Nursing.

CongratulationsNevaeh! We are incredibly proud to support your journey and can’t wait to see the amazing things you will accomplish. Your drive, resilience, and passion for helping others truly set you apart. Best wishes in your studies and in your bright future ahead!”
