Jefferson Hospital

Why should you join our top-ranked nursing team?

As a dedicated professional nurse, you expect the best and want to be part of the best. Jefferson is one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers offering patients advanced treatments and unparalleled care. As a Jefferson nurse you will work with renowned physicians, expert nurses and other healthcare professionals providing advanced technologies and treatments for patients

Our urban academic medical center setting offers versatility and variety to the nurse who wants to expand his or her practice and knowledge.  Because we serve patients across the entire healthcare continuum, our nurses can explore various interests and specialties that are not available at smaller hospitals.

Jefferson nurses practice in a wide range of specialties including critical care, medical/surgical, perioperative, emergency and more. There are also opportunities in outpatient and specialty procedural areas.  Experienced nurses are encouraged to pursue specialty interests and earn advanced degrees and certifications.

Nurses work at our three Philadelphia Hospital locations including Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience (both in Center City), and at Jefferson Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia.

An Exceptional Healthcare Environment

Advanced medical care, a leading academic medical center setting and MAGNET® recognition for nursing excellence are among the reasons why patients regionally and across the U.S. and the world choose Jefferson. They are also reasons why we are a preferred employer, attracting top-notch physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals. Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals hold the prestigious Magnet® recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Highly regarded as the “gold standard” of nursing excellence, Magnet recognition assures nurses that they can expect a superior clinical setting.

Jefferson Health honors outstanding nurses for their achievements each year through the Nursing Excellence Awards program and other external award recognition opportunities. Our nurses are also regularly recognized as recipients of national and regional awards from professional nursing organizations and on other prestigious award competitions.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is consistently rated among the best hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

A Reputation for Nursing Excellence

Our nurses are renowned for excellence beyond the extraordinary care and compassion they provide to each and every patient who comes through our door. From the nurse at the bedside to the nurse practitioner, Jefferson’s award-winning nurses are impacting patient care as innovators, researchers, mentors and teachers. Highly regarded for their knowledge and expertise, they are sought after as presenters at national and international conferences, as contributors to nursing journals and as leaders of professional nursing organizations.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals have attained MAGNET® recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for a third time in 2018. Jefferson Methodist Hospital also received this designation for the first time. Jefferson was first awarded MAGNET® status by the ANCC in 2009. Currently, less than ten percent of hospitals nationwide have achieved MAGNET® recognition.

A Voice in Decision-Making

Jefferson is committed to fostering a work environment for our nurses that is satisfying both professionally and personally. The Nursing Department’s organizational structure creates, supports and empowers clinical nurses to be active decision-makers.

Through Jefferson’s Shared Governance Model, staff nurses participate and assume leadership roles on unit level committees. This input influences the work of the Hospital level Staff Nurse Leadership Committees. Through this structure and by participating in Nurse Resource Groups and other interdisciplinary committees, nurses make decisions that impact and influence patient care and safety.

Other models provide a comprehensive framework for nursing practice-the Care Delivery Model and the Professional Development Model.

Our nurses contribute to a concerted organization-wide focus toward achieving quality outcome targets for our patients, improving patient satisfaction and recognizing staff and fiscal responsibility.

Competitive Benefits

A preferred employer, Jefferson offers competitive salaries and a generous benefits program. We offer one of the most comprehensive, responsive and effective benefits programs available today. The benefits program and optional benefits are designed to give you the freedom to choose the plan that meets the unique needs of your lifestyle.

Time-off options, tuition reimbursement, continuing education and an excellent nurse-to-patient ratio make Jefferson a great place to work — but the real attractions are the spirit of caring and the camaraderie you’ll find here.
